Bien que d&rsquo;importants progr\u00e8s aient \u00e9t\u00e9 enregistr\u00e9s quant \u00e0 la compr\u00e9hension de cette maladie, il demeure encore maintes connaissances \u00e0 acqu\u00e9rir sur ses m\u00e9canismes complexes, ce qui pourrait mener \u00e0 des strat\u00e9gies de prise en charge encore plus efficientes. L&rsquo;objet de cet article est une plong\u00e9e au c\u0153ur de l&rsquo;univers de la RDP. Cependant, une naissance pr\u00e9matur\u00e9e vient perturber cette chronologie naturelle, exposant ainsi les vaisseaux fragiles de la r\u00e9tine \u00e0 des risques de d\u00e9t\u00e9rioration. Par cons\u00e9quent, les nouveaux vaisseaux form\u00e9s peuvent pr\u00e9senter des anomalies. \u00c0 maintes reprises, ces vaisseaux inhabituels prolif\u00e8rent dans des directions non souhait\u00e9es, induisant fr\u00e9quemment un d\u00e9collement de la r\u00e9tine (2), ce qui peut entra\u00eener des cons\u00e9quences s\u00e9v\u00e8res, incluant une perte de vision substantielle et, dans certains cas, la c\u00e9cit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Le risque de RDP s&rsquo;accentue chez les nourrissons n\u00e9s avant la 32e semaine de gestation ou pesant moins de 3 livres \u00e0 la naissance (2). Malgr\u00e9 un d\u00e9but parfois discret, la RDP peut se traduire par des indices tels que des mouvements oculaires anormaux, une coloration blanche des pupilles (leucocorie) ou des probl\u00e8mes de vue.<\/p>\n<p>En raison de la vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 de ces enfants pr\u00e9matur\u00e9s, il s&rsquo;av\u00e8re crucial de mieux appr\u00e9hender les facteurs qui participent \u00e0 la survenue de la RDP. L&rsquo;un des param\u00e8tres les plus pr\u00e9pond\u00e9rants est l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne, \u00e9l\u00e9ment essentiel dans la croissance de divers tissus, dont la r\u00e9tine (3).
