This research aims to investigate the impact of retinal oxygenation levels in different ocular conditions, such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, and age-related macular degeneration. Employing Zilia Ocular, a revolutionary retinal camera designed to measure blood oxygen saturation within the eye, this study marks Zilia’s entry into the Japanese research landscape.

Under the leadership of Dr. Kiyoshi Suzuma, Kagawa University will spearhead the trial, leveraging its outstanding research capabilities. Spanning over five years, the study will involve a comprehensive analysis of 90 patients.

Dr. Suzuma highlights the project’s potential, stating, “This collaborative effort with Zilia represents a monumental leap forward in understanding the dynamics of oxygenation in the eye. This groundbreaking study holds immense promise for unlocking new avenues in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases.”

Dr. Patrick Sauvageau, optometrist, CEO and Co-founder of Zilia, commented on the study’s significance: “Partnering with Kagawa University for our inaugural Japanese study is a pivotal moment for Zilia. We are firmly committed to enhancing vision care through innovative research, and this study is a key part of our mission to deliver personalized healthcare solutions for individuals suffering from retinal diseases.”
